Expiring Domains Search at GoodFella Hosting!

by Roy Pope

All the good domain names may already be taken, but they are also being added back into the basket of available names every day. GoodFella Hosting has added an Expiring Domains Search feature to our web site to help our customers find some of those hard-to-get domain names.

With the Expiring Domains Search, customers can browse our database for names preparing to expire within the next three days, or browse through names that have already expired within the past five days. Our database is updated every night at midnight to bring you the latest in expired and expiring domains.

Users of our Expiring Domains Search utility are able to filter search results by TLD - we currently support the com, net, org, biz, and info TLDs in our database. Other filters include the ability to include or exclude domain names containing hyphens and-or numbers, the ability to search for domains not exceeding specified lengths in characters, and the ability to return domain names by expiration period.

Our original intent was to provide such a search engine that also displayed Google pageranks for the domain names, along with Google and Yahoo! backlink counts. The software that we purchase was 'Expired Domains 2.0' from Alstrasoft.com. Unfortunately, after installation we discovered that the software did not work as described in the Alstrasoft.com website. There were too many usage restrictions and limitations hard-coded into the PHP script, and the database of expiring and expired domains produced on our server from the script were primarily dependant upon the Google pagerank that the script was able to obtain from Google.com. This hampered the operation of the software further since the script used to obtain the pageranks did not work, and was returning negative 1 pageranks for nearly every domain name that it searched.

After more than a week of bouncing back and forth with the customer support at Alstrasoft.com, demonstrating to them time and again that their software did not work, we finally received a refund. The refund was not given by them without much trouble, however. Needless to say, this company will never be doing business with Alstrasoft.com in the future.
